Abstract: An open top down draft gas producer with divorced fuel hopper was constructed and tested. The design progressed through many changes until a stable device emerged.

This is a stratified (AKA open top) gasifier with divorced fuel magazine. To start with, I plan to just hand feed it. This version is constructed from a junked hot water tank, plus other misc. junk that I had in stock. The next version, I will weld the outer shell (holds the insulation) of the firetube to the top of the gasifier, not the firetube it self. Hence I can remove the insulation and replace with something else. In other words, it will be easy to test other types of insulation.
