A compost or possibly a humus pile was constructed to explore the possibilities of utilizing the heat generated from this process to heat a building. The building was a work shop that needed to be kept above freezing temperature or higher during late fall and winter. It did work to some degree but further work needs to be done. With the first version there was a problem separating the water pipes from the compost/humus at the end of it's life cycle.
Weiss from Denmark has a commercial scale CHP plant in Copenhagen, Denmark in operation producing 500 KWe and 1000 MW thermal energy that they are adding to the district heating loop.

Gasification of Wood Chip Waste for Domestic Heat and Power - January 2009.
Ken Boak, January 30, 2009
Mr Switchgrass is an inverted downdraft gasifier design that burns/gasifiers chopped switchgrass or weeds with little to no smoke problems. A rule of thumb is that each section will burn for a solid ten minutes at full flame. I measured 66 lbs for one load and it ran for about 40 to 50 minutes.
